"Gratitude For Guidance"
"Intuition comes very close to clairvoyance; it appears to
be the extrasensory perception of reality"
Alexis Carrel
"Intuition is a spiritual faculty and does not explain, but
simply points the way."
Florence Scovel Shinn
In these two quotes about intuition we seem to have
two different views - the scientific and the spiritual. The
interesting part is that they are both saying the same
thing. We have, within us, a source of accurate guidance
for our lives!
Wow, that's pretty amazing, isn't it? What does it matter
if it's the "extrasensory perception of reality" or "a spiritual
faculty." What matters is that the place within us that
gives us leading, guidance, hunches and gut feelings is
a source of information that we can trust. I see this
as a gift from the "friendly Universe" and something to be
really grateful for.
We have to learn to trust it, though. In my experience I've
found that I've got to make the choice to listen, and practice
listening, if I want the guidence to be loud and clear. Most of
us go through life ignoring our inner voice and as a result it
becomes just a faint whisper. Many people, including me,
have found that meditation really helps getting in touch with
this inner voice, because meditation is a listening discipline.
So what does this inner voice sound like? To me it comes
through as a feeling of "rightness" or "wrongness" about
situations or decisions. It can be big things or little things
but it's always there if I listen.
My wife, Sandy, and I have been using this a lot lately as
Sandy has been pondering her next move in ministry. She
graduated from seminary and was ordained in June and since
then has been looking at all the various options in front of her
and looking for guidance.
Here's what she has done. It's a 3 step process. Pray (ask),
meditate (listen), act. It's a way of following your heart. When
you see something that looks and feels right, take a step or
two in that direction. See how that feels. If it doesn't feel right,
repeat the process. If it does feel right, take a couple more
steps and check how that feels. Ask, listen, act.
Last month she felt that she was pretty sure what the answer
was, but she wanted to do one last bit of intense asking and
listening. So she took two days and did a spiritual counseling
session with a trusted friend and mentor, followed by a silent
retreat. She came back calm and certain, and just said, "I'm
sure. Let's do it!" So now we're planning our next adventure,
jumping off into the great unknown. But our
inner guidance gives us confidence that it's the right thing.
I'm really grateful that we have that kind of help. I'd hate to
have to figure it out on my own. I hope all of you, my
wonderful subscribers, will take the time to cultivate this
great gift you've been given.
Have a great month. I am very grateful for each and
every one of you!
Happy holidays,
Wes
