" Watch Where You're Going!"
"Don't look at the obstacles, keep your
eyes on where you wanna go because
the raft's gonna go where you're looking!"
- - from white water rafting school
Back in 1995 I did something I'd always wanted
to do and went for a week of training to be a
white water rafting guide.
We were in beautiful Taos, NM, training on the
Chama and Rio Grande rivers, and it was
even better than I expected. Rowing the big
rafts under the sharp eyes of the instructors
and taking on bigger and bigger rapids as the
week progressed. Whew, what a rush!
What I learned turned out to be very useful off
the river, too. See, when you're coming up on
a rapid the river drops off and you can't see
until you get close. You've gotta stand up to
see as much as you can and make split second
decisions about how you want to position the raft.
You gotta determine two things - where you
wanna go, and where you don't wanna go!
The first things you see are usually the rocks
and big waves. They're what you want to avoid
but you can't get through by trying to steer
around them.
Because, as the instructors made very clear,
the raft's gonna go where you're looking! So
quickly scan the obstacles, then pick your path
and focus on that. Always be looking where you
want to go.
One of the other guys drove us right into a rock
because he forgot that. Even with us yelling at
him, he forgot. River hypnosis, I guess.
You see the life lesson in this? What are you
focusing on - the rocks, the economy, the
problems, or are you looking where you want
to go? 'Cause the raft's gonna go where you're
looking.
Get a clear vision for what you want so you can
have that in your mind. Be aware of the rocks,
but focus on that vision and don't let the fact
that most other people are focused on the
rocks distract you. You know what you want!
You'll find that the power of staying focused on
what you want is just incredible!
Be grateful that your raft's going right where
you want it. I know it will.
Wes

Dealing with Fear and Change
Boy, a lot of people are struggling right now to
deal with the economy and their fears about
the future. Wouldn't it be great to be able to ask
some really successful people how they dealt
with it in their lives?
You can! I've been rereading these 15 interviews,
with Jim Rohn, Michael Fortin, Joe Vitale, Bob
Berg and more, and they're even more inspiring
now in this economy than they were before!
They did it. You can do it. Read how. Oh, and the answer's
not in a bunch of marketing tips.
